What’s astrology got to do with fashion or beauty? Or why gray is the new neutral du jour for the home?
The way I see it, everything!
Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour once mused in an editorial: “I’ve long believed that the content of fashion does not materialize spontaneously but, in ways both mysterious and uncanny, emerges from the fabric of our times.”
Astrology, through tracking the interweaving of the planets, also provides insight into this great tapestry called life.
Over the past 4,000 years or so, this cosmic art/science has been used to study and predict cycles. Which is why it works so well to track the stock market, plan a wedding or for any activity where timing is crucial.
And, of course, to explore our inner universe and gain greater understanding. To figure out why we all do the things we do, and hopefully make better choices.
A funny thing happened on the way to the fashion show ….
When not writing about trends in home décor, fashion and beauty, I’m an astrologer. For close to two decades I have used the incomparable tool of astrology to make sense of this crazy universe for myself and my clients. Then one day ….
I was cooling my four-inch heels in the front row waiting for a show to begin during Montreal Fashion Week in 2007. Recalling the diaphanous lunar styles I’d just viewed, I thought: “How Saturn in Cancer.”
My light-bulb moment was more blinding that the spotlights!
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that every trend, either on or off the runway, has an astro correlation. After all, I’ve always viewed astrology as the ideal tool for styling one’s life, and why shouldn’t that include the things we want to wear and live with?
For instance, in my recent article on this site, "Think Pink at Home -- and Beyond!", I propose that surrounding ourselves with this hue, so trendy for fall 2013, might be therapeutic. Color therapy-wise, it’s the perfect antidote to some of the heavy and stressful aspects that prevail now.
There will be lots more of my musings to come in this blog. I hope you’ll find something not only interest but inspire you to create your own life -- with style.
